Rochester Independent College

Rochester Independent College was founded as a sixth form college in 1984 and offers a fresh alternative to traditional independent education. There is no uniform and students and teachers are on first name terms. Today, RIC has over 280 students from the age of 11 and offers places for boarders from the age of 16.

Classes are small. On average there are 8 students in each group. As well as a full secondary education from year 7 to sixth form the College specialises in intensive one year A level and GCSE courses. We also have a good track record of excellent results on retake A level and GCSE courses for students aiming at competitive university courses including Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.

Students can join for intensive year 13 courses or retake year 12. One of last year's retake students said:

"Studying at RIC raised my confidence and ambition - my previous school told me I would never get into a Russell Group university."

RIC is a member of the Independent Schools Association. RIC is also listed in the Good Schools Guide 2013 www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk They say:

"Parents all speak highly of the pastoral care and of the growth in confidence they have noticed in their children."

At A level there are no restrictions on subject combination. Maths and Sciences are the College's strongest subjects and our students have won 18 Oxbridge places since 2010. The Top 5 University placements 2005-13 are: Leeds, Nottingham, Sussex, Cambridge and Imperial.

The Good Schools Guide say: "It's hard to imagine better provision for an artist."

At the heart of a designated conservation area, Rochester Independent College is housed in restored properties enhanced by modern design features. New this year is Underhill Hall, a home for RIC Drama with seating for 100 people. The historically distinctive site with listed buildings linked by award winning wildlife gardens creates a unique sense of place to explore and in which to live, study and work. The unique urban campus is now connected with all circulation through the gardens. All boarding is on site, in mostly single rooms, some with ensuite facilities.
